We are happy to inform you of ASHA's Continuing Education Program. Whether you consider yourself a life-long learner, always interested in expanding your knowledge, or simply want to meet your yearly requirements, our program is very flexible and offers you many options. Seasoned therapists with years of experience and recent graduates of a massage program will find that this program takes you to a deeper level into the field of bodywork and massage.

Interested students may choose from Continuing Education courses, like Deep Structural Release or Muscle Testing for Body Therapists, which will earn CE Contact Hours or courses like Advanced NMT which may also be applied to our innovative Certified Somatic Therapy Program*. We also offer a variety of course seminars which may be taken by people who have little or no experience in massage or bodywork, like Reflexology.

DEEP STRUCTURAL RELEASE OF THE LOW LEG, FEET, & SHOULDERS

DEEP TISSUE RELEASE will teach the theory and techniques for structural realignment of the body. This can enable you to integrate and combine the conscious awareness of body, mind and spirit to facilitate advanced states of healing. The intent of the treatments is to balance the body into alignment with its environment, freeing the energy flow that will enhance the body’s physiological and psychological function.

During this 2-day workshop: We will review the anatomical structure of the Lower Leg, Foot & Shoulders, learn structural assessment for each area, learn the hands-on techniques and give and receive a two hour session for each area. Traditionally, Thai Massage is performed with the client fully clothed on a floor mat. These postures are assisted stretching of muscle fascia, tendons, and ligaments at its best!
Assisted yoga is within the soft tissue scope of Massage Therapy; focusing on connective tissue stretching, which is very different from muscle massage.

SUBTLE MUSCLE TESTING

REFLEXOLOGY: A HEALING ART

In this 2-day introduction to the highly popular and fast growing field of reflexology you will learn the fundamentals of reflexology, some basic history, and hands-on application and theory. SELF-DEFENSE FOR EVERYDAY LIVING

In these trying times the need for self-defense training is becoming a necessity. This course will teach several basic techniques that can be utilized in a massage session and in every day life should the need arise. The topics of discussion will include house call safety procedures, parking lot safety, and walking trail safety, as well as general safety practices.
At the end of this course you will be able to:

CHAIR MASSAGE

In this course you will learn how to give a quick and effective chair massage.
You will learn techniques for use on clothed clients as well as how to apply those techniques with good body mechanics. Proper technique protects your body, increases your force, and makes the work nearly effortless!
You will learn how to give a massage that is not only relaxing but also therapeutic.

Carl Christie LMT NMT graduated from New Life Institute in 1997(Now Rising Spirit Institute of Natural Health). He began teaching Musculoskeletal Anatomy there within the first year of being a therapist. He studied Chair Massage under David Palmer - "Father of Chair Massage" after graduation.
Wanting to take chair massage in a different direction, he started to experiment with ways to apply Neuromuscular Therapy(NMT) for use on seated/clothed clients to develop a gentle, but very focused and therapeutic approach. The techniques covered in his chair massage classes include real world applications on how to recognize common issues and deal with them quickly and effectively.
He has been teaching Chair Massage at RSI since 2000, and has been evolving and improving the system ever since. He is working with Elsevier to publish a forthcoming volume on the subject.

CLINICAL SPORTS THERAPY**

This course is for every massage therapist not just those planning to specialize in Sports Massage. Designed by Alannah Levian, LMW, CMT, RN, ND, DC, DCCHom and ASHA’s Clinical Sports Department, this course is based on the latest scientific research on Sports Medicine and Exercise Physiology. NEUROMUSCULAR THERAPY**

This comprehensive, advanced clinical course focuses on myofascial pain and dysfunction. NMT uses scientifically-applied pressure to relieve myofascial pain, balance structure, restore movement, and promote integration of mind and body. All aspects of NMT are taught including postural assessment and trigger-point referral patterns. This course is for graduates of massage programs who have had 100 hours of NMT. It is ASHA’s basic NMT course and is a prerequisite for Advanced Neuromuscular Therapy. 230 Contact hours.
